Prep the existing domain for a 2008 R2 DC.
- From the Windows Schema Master. Insert the R2 media.
- From the Windows Command Prompt. Change to the Support\Adprep folder.
- The Adprep folder has adprep for x64 servers and adprep32 for x32 servers.
- Enter: adprep /forestprep and C to continue.
- The Schema is updated with the R2 entries.
- When the update is finished. Run Adprep /domainprep /gpprep on the Infrastructure Operations Master.
Deploy the Windows 2008 R2 DC.
- From the 2008 R2 Server Start/Run. Enter DCPromo.
- Active Directory Domain Services will be installed automatically if the Role had not been installed prior to running DCPromo.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Select Existing forest.
- Select Add a DC.
- Click Next.
- Enter the domain name.
- Use the existing credentials or provide alternate credentials.
- Click Next.
- Select a domain for the new DC.
- Click Next.
- Select a Site for the new DC.
- Click Next.
- Choose the Additional DC Options.
- Click Next.
- Specify Location for Database, Logs, and Sysvol.
- Click Next.
- Enter the AD Restore Password.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Wait while the ADDS services are configured.
- Configuration is complete after a reboot.
